If you’re planning an e-waste pickup, you likely have a few questions. At Elian Electronics Recycling, we work with businesses every day to simplify electronics recycling—and we’ve rounded up the top 5 things clients want to know before booking their service.

1. What is considered e-waste?

E-waste refers to any discarded electronic device with a plug, battery, or circuit board. This includes both large equipment and smaller electronics used in offices, medical settings, and industrial environments.

Only items from the qualified list count toward the minimum for free pickup. Once the 10 qualified item minimum is met, courtesy items will also be picked up at no extra charge.

2. Why can’t we throw electronics in the trash?

Electronics contain toxic materials like lead, mercury, and cadmium that can harm the environment when landfilled. Recycling protects natural resources and recovers valuable materials for reuse.

3. Does my equipment qualify for pickup?

We accept a wide range of qualified and courtesy items for pickup, including business electronics, IT equipment, networking gear, and small appliances.

If you're unsure about specific items, just check the qualified items list or contact our team. We're happy to confirm if your equipment is eligible.

Reminder: A minimum of 10 qualified items is required for free pickup, and courtesy items are included once that’s met.

4. How should we prepare for the pickup?

A few simple steps can ensure a smooth and secure pickup:

  • Group all items in one accessible area, such as the lobby, entrance, or loading dock

  • Back up important data and log out of any devices you're recycling

  • Notify us in advance of any access instructions (e.g. gate codes)

While logging out adds an extra layer of security, certified data destruction is available upon request for all data-bearing devices. We provide full chain-of-custody and a Certificate of Data Destruction for your records.

5. What happens to our data?

We provide certified data destruction for all data-bearing devices, either on-site or off-site, with full chain-of-custody documentation and a Certificate of Data Destruction for your records.
